Bone Carving Fundraiser
Sunday 27th November

It has been fantastic to see the fundraising thermometer rising and hear about all the different fundraising activities that have been happening.  Now you have a great opportunity to buy some beautiful Christmas presents and raise money for the new gym.  These would make a fabulous gift for friends and family and are a great option for posting overseas.  There are several different designs but limited quantities of each so be in quick with your order.  Adult's pendants are $8 and children's pendants are $4.  Orders can be made by phoning or texting Jackie Cotter on 3322240 or 027 2434811 or emailing cotter@xtra.co.nz  or making an order in the book at the school office.  Photos of the different designs can be viewed outside the school office or by viewing Jackie Cotter's facebook page or on the Craft project page.

Serving Others and Fundraising
Sunday 21st November

I received an inspiring email from a Hillview family to share with you. Their children have decided to help the residents of the Over 60's village next door. Initially it was a request to cut a lawn then wash a car, word got around and the kids were asked could they wheel the bins out for $1 a bin, the kids are going to donate 10% of this to the Hillview fundraiser (around $250 PA). This is such a win win situation, the residents so appreciate the service and the kids are learning about service to others, how to conduct themselves in business and giving to God projects.

Talent Project Update
Thursday 26th August

WOW!!!!! It was fantastic to see the Junior Staffroom filled to overflowing at the Talents Project Information Evening, with around half of the school families present. There was real enthusiasm from the school community for this project, to pull together and create something amazing. People are indeed committed to creating a legacy for future generations through this school gym/community centre.

For those of you who couldn't attend, the bottom line of the meeting was that if the gym is to be everything we want it to be, we need to fundraise — big time! Hence the 'Talents Project' for the next year. It is our chance collectively to use our God given talents, abilities and time, to sow $30,000 of HSA fundraised money with the goal of reaping $300,000.

So far 131 families have collected their $100 which is fantastic! If you haven't had a chance to collect your $100 you can still do this.... please contact the office.

The intent is that families do not have to go it alone and that people feel supported and equipped to carry out their Talents Project. For this reason we are putting two structures in place.

  1. Team Leaders for family groups within a class. Each family will have a team leader who will contact you to see if you need help with ideas, or extra help with a project. The aim is that everyone is in a supportive team and that we embark on this fundraising project together. As we heard at the Information Evening these class groups also help to strengthen relationships and build our school community.

  2. HSA / Talent Project Website. Many people have come up with ideas that are 'bigger' than they could do on their own. Hence we are encouraging people to work together in groups where needed and do something big. Other people have great ideas but they need someone with a specific skill to help them. The Help Wanted page of the website is where people can advertise for help, or offer their expertise. If you have a project you need help with, or you would like to offer help to others, email us and we will add your details to the page. The other thing we want this website to do, is to provide a place where we can advertise what you are doing. We are hearing of all sorts of fantastic ideas being planned: Zumba Classes, cooking demonstrations, quiz nights, collecting for the census. Please e-mail hillviewfundraising@gmail.com so these can be added to the website. Some fundraising projects have already started!!!!!! A Girls Day Out was held last Friday (Teachers Only Day) for a group of Year 5 girls and already we have had other people confirm that they have already multiplied their money !!!!!!!! Photo's of events held will appear here as soon.  In the meantime, please take the time to look around the website at everything else that is going on.

  3. A letter has been written from the school endorsing the gym fundraising project. This can be attached to applications to hold sausage sizzles, or if requesting donations for prizes at an event. You can collect a copy of this from the school office, or download it here. N.B: Fresh Choice Barrington has a monthly giveaway of $500. We would love some person to offer to apply for this each month. If you are willing to take this on, please contact Karen Winder at the school office.

May God bless your fundraising efforts — let the fun begin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kind regards
The HSA Team

Don't Forget Your $100

Tuesday 17th August

So far 110 families have collected their $100 which is fantastic.   If you haven't had a chance to collect your $100 you still have time.  Someone from the HSA will be present on the Junior site after school for the rest of this week.  All you need to do is sign a one page contract to receive your $100 talent. They are also very happy to answer any questions you have.

I have also been hearing lots of amazing ideas so it will be very exciting to start to see some of these projects happening.  I hope you are enjoying browsing through this web site.  There is lots of empty space at the moment so I am really looking forward to receiving lots of emails from you sharing ideas, asking for help or advertising your projects.  Please email hillviewfundraising@gmail.com

The Talents Project Begins!

Tuesday 10th August
Last night’s Talents Project information evening was exciting.  It was fantastic to see the Junior staffroom filled to overflowing, including the mezzanine.  It was amazing to see such a strong turnout with around half of the school families present.  There was a real buzz.  For those of you that weren’t able to come I will help fill in some of the gaps for you.

Aaron Donaldson from the Board of Trustees set the scene for us.  There were photos showing how the new gym would sit alongside the junior school and exciting draft drawings and wish lists of what the Gym will look like.  The bottom line, though, was if the gym is to be everything we want it to be we need to fund raise – big time!  This is where the Talents Project fits in.  It is our exciting opportunity as a school community – staff, trustees, parents and children to pull together and create something amazing. It is our chance collectively to use our God given talents, abilities and time to sow $30,000 of school money and reap $300,000.  In fact it is more than just about making money, it is about creating a legacy for future generations as Steve Frost aptly described it.

We were blessed last night to listen to David and Cathy Brown share their experience when Middleton Grange embarked on a similar project many years ago.  It was such an encouragement to hear their success story, of how in the 1980s, 500 families took $50,000 and raised almost $500,000. More than that it was so exciting to hear how they felt the project had deepened friendships, heightened the sense of community, created a sense of achievement, demonstrated team spirit, enabled people at all levels, and led people to discover new gifts and talents.

Kirstie Copeland then shared lots of fundraising ideas and many others in the audience also contributed ideas.  There is a list of ideas on our Fundraising Ideas page.  If you have more ideas to share please email hillviewfundraising@gmail.com and we will add them to the list.  One thing that really stood out for me is that the intent isn’t for us to ‘go it alone’ as families.  If you have lots of ideas then go for it, but if you don’t that is fine too, it doesn’t mean you can’t get involved.  Many people last night had ideas that were ‘bigger’ than they could do on their own.  It is okay, in fact it is encouraged, to work together in groups and do something big.  Other people have great ideas but they need someone with a specific skill to help them, one example last night was someone looking for a Zumba instructor so that they could organise exercise classes.  To help the process of getting people together, we have a Help Wanted page where people can advertise for help, or offer their expertise. If you have a project you need help with, or you would like to offer help to others, email hillviewfundraising@gmail.com and we will add your details to the page.

The other thing we want this website to do is provide a place where we can advertise what you are doing.  We will have an upcoming events area where you can see what is happening.  We also have a projects area where we will list all the projects organised into categories.  If you email hillviewfundraising@gmail.com the details of your fundraising activity we will add it to the list for you.  Go to the Projects Directory page for details of the information we would like you to provide.

You may be wondering why I titled this blog entry ‘It begins!’ well that was the last big surprise of Monday night – the money was there!  Families that were present each signed an agreement and received their $100.  For those of you, yet to receive their $100 the HSA will be giving it to people at school over the next few weeks.

One last thing I nearly forgot to mention which is really important is that we would also love to inspire each other as we go on this journey together.  Please email and tell us about your fundraising activities – how they have gone, how you found the experience and photos showing your event would be great!  We will then share your story here so others can be inspired too.

Best wishes to you all and may God bless your fundraising efforts – let the fun begin!
