What is the HSA?
The Home and School Association (not to be confused with Home-School Association!) is part of the closer school network. It is a group that plays many parts within the school community, and is a link between the school and it’s families. Many of us might be more familiar with the term and role of a PTA – the HSA is Hillview’s equivalent.
What do we do?
We are involved with many aspects of school life. We support new and existing families through networking, and are on hand to offer spiritual, physical, and verbal help where necessary and appropriate. On the first day of each term we hold a coffee morning in the staff room for new and existing families. Nerves, excitement, joy, relief…we’ve seen it all on the faces of parents!
The HSA also exists to nurture, cultivate and promote the very special culture of Hillview – primarily among parents. We have held fantastic (if we do say so ourselves) community nights, movie nights and other special events that helps make Hillview a family, not just a school.
One of our main objectives is fundraising. We have helped to raise money for our new gym, a new school van, the pool, sports equipment…just to name a few. It is a delight and a privilege to be able to pray for families, teachers and staff, the Board of Trustees, and the school community as a whole.
We are a group of mothers who love to serve Hillview! We meet every 6 weeks or so, and laugh a lot in between discussing business. There is always chocolate and good coffee/tea to boost morale. For some of us who work, being part of the HSA provides a practical way to serve the school out of school hours. We understand that life is busy – we give what time we can, and support each other as much as possible.
Sounds like your cup of tea?
We always welcome new members with open arms. The HSA is a fantastic way to feel part of the Hillview family, and get to know some new people. There are a number of women who can’t commit to officially joining the HSA, but are available to help out in the lead up to, or during events. We appreciate every bit of help, no matter how small! If you have any interest in joining the HSA or any queries please contact Aroha Skinner: email@example.com
On Tues 1st Dec Rach and I along with Steve Frost wondered through the new gym to have a look at the construction progress, here is a taste of what we as a school community can look forward to next year. Very exciting!!
